Choose CFLsBeGreenSquared is an expert in the Documented Direct-Installed CFL program (BPA Measure RLI00124).  Over the next few years it will become more and more important to get the CFL saturation up in your service area.  The Northwest Council's Power Plan relies upon a certain amount of "energy savings" from Incandescent to CFL conversions.  Have you done your part as a PUD to assist in that effort?

Even if you have engaged in "give-away" and "direct-thru-mail" programs, our research has indicated that the saturation in most regions is still much lower than was forecast by the Council's 1983 20-year Plan.  Now is the time to act to get those saturation figures up and BeGreenSquared can assist you in that effort.

Funding

Our programs are all designed to be funded through either CRC or ECA funding.  To date we have never had a program we could not fund 100% through those funding sources.  If this is a concern, give us a call so we can discuss what options exist for you and how we can secure funding for your project.

Project Options

The various CFL rebate programs were orignally instituted by the BPA to achieve considerable energy savings across their energy services network.1  Since their original inception, the saturation of CFLs has increased, but across the US the saturation is still below 11% and is below 20% in the Northwest2 3 4 (where the BPA has contributed substantial investment in the area of CFL distribution).

While most PUD/Coops have implemented "give-away" or "direct-thru-mail" CFL distribution programs, few utilties have implemented the Documented Direct-Installed CFL program (RLI00124).  The direct-installed program is similar to the standard "give-away" program, but requires the CFL be installed in the actual socket in the resident's home.  This provides the following advantages:

  1. Maximized Energy Efficiency.  Since each socket gets only one CFL, you maximize the energy efficiency of your investment.
  2. Guaranteed Installation. Since each CFL is installed by one of our agents, there is no more wondering if the CFL is in the socket or in the closet.
  3. Known Saturation Levels. Since we provide detailed feedback on where we have installed CFLs, you will not have to "guess" at your saturation levels; you will know them.
  4. Immediate Customer Savings.  Since we install each and every bulb, this saves the customer time and allows them to begin saving immediately.
  5. Increased Customer Education.  Following each install, we leave the customer with a post-installation flyer containing valuable information about the advantages of CFLs and about proper CFL recycling.

This program can be implemented in a number of ways depending on the needs of your utility.  We have grouped these implementation options as A, B or C.

Option Project Details Description
A
CFLs:
5,000
Rate Credits:
$20,000.00
$3,000.00
Project Length:
1 mo.

Data Collection

Implementation Option "A" can be used as a simple "data collection" effort.  If you have distributed considerable CFLs (either through "give away" or "direct-thru-mail" programs) this is a great place to start.  With this program, we will deploy installers to install a limited amount of CFLs in a specific targeted region.  This effort will be undertaken with a two-fold goal: CFL installation as well as data collection.  The data we collect can be used to provide details as to what the actual CFL installation saturation is in the region we target so you can then choose whether to increase or decrease your CFL distribution efforts.

B
CFLs:
40,000
Rate Credits:
$160,000.00
$24,000.00
Project Length:
6 mo.

Baseline Saturation

Implementation Option "B" has as it's primary goal to achieve "baseline CFL saturation" in your service area.  At this time, baseline saturation in the northwest is around 20-25%.  If you have engaged in limited CFL distribution, this is a great way to build up your CFL saturation in a short period of time as well as gather valuable data.  Once this project is underway, it will be easy to see what your actual saturation figures are once data begins to be flow into the system for your review.

C
CFLs:
120,000
Rate Credits:
$480,000.00
$72,000.00
Project Length:
12 mo.

Expanded Saturation

Implementation Option "C" is intended to take a service area beyond "baseline CFL saturation" (20-25%) to "expanded CFL saturation" (40-50%).  Depending on the number of CFLs to be deployed, this could take as little as 2 months to as long as 12 months.  As with both options "A" and "B" installation data is gathered throughout the installation process so you can perform detailed data analysis both during and following the installation project.

Regardless of the current CFL saturation level in your service area, there is a BeGreenSquared Documented Direct-Installed CFL program that can be tailored to meet your needs.  If you have any questions about any of the programs mentioned above, please do not hesitate to give us a call or drop us an email so we can address your questions.
